Annette Moran Named Assistant Dean of Students

Annette Moran has been named assistant dean of students at the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy. Prior to her new title, Moran served Mewbourne College as director of the Pioneer Natural Resources Student Services Center.

Under Moran’s leadership, Pioneer Natural Resources Student Services Center continues to expand its scope, enabling Mewbourne College to serve students in broader and more robust capacities.

“Annette Moran has created a service-oriented culture within Pioneer Natural Resources Student Services Center,” said J. Mike Stice, dean of Mewbourne College. “Her personal leadership is grounded by her empathy and caring for our students coupled with a relentless commitment to excellence in everything she does. We are so blessed to have Annette leading our advising services, study abroad and student life functions. This new title reflects the invaluable work she has done and will continue to do on behalf of all current and future Mewbourne College students.”

In 2016, Moran joined Mewbourne College as director of student services to oversee advising and student life. Over the course of five years, Moran’s duties have expanded to include:

  • Overseeing Mewbourne College’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts
  • Recruiting the best students to Mewbourne College
  • Sending Mewbourne College students around the world through study abroad programs

In 2019, Pioneer Natural Resources took notice of the excellent work and reputation of Mewbourne College Student Services and made a significant investment in the program.

Moran came to the University of Oklahoma from Australia on a tennis scholarship. In 2004, she graduated with her bachelor’s degree in journalism and in 2006 earned her master’s degree in adult and higher education, also from OU. Before joining Mewbourne College, she worked with OU Athletics Academic Affairs for 10 years, first as an academic advisor and then as assistant director.

Moran still serves the university at large as a University College Freshman Programs adjunct instructor. She is the recipient of multiple awards:

  • 2020 OU Provost’s Outstanding Academic Advising Administrator Award
  • 2021 National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Outstanding Academic Advising Administrator Award
