Oktoberfest: Raising Awareness with a Pie in the Face

On Friday, October 30, OU SPE hosted Oktoberfest in the ROTC Armory on campus. The event was designed as a benefit to kick-off their Relay for Life fundraising. In spite of the rain, around 80 people were in attendance. The highlight of the evening was the Pie in the Face event. Student leaders, MPGE faculty, and MCEE dean, Mike Stice, were all available to get pied. SPE president, Madeline Bull, was the individual who received the most pies to the face, and Dean Stice was treated to a few pies by his staff. The biggest surprise came when MPGE associate professor, Catalin Teodoriu, who was not on the slate, has students clamoring to raise money to be able to pie him. In less than five minutes, over $200 was raised and Teodoriu gave in and was pied.

SPE also hosted a cornhole tournament during the event. The competition was pretty fierce and exciting to watch. MPGE’s Francey Freeman and Dean Stice took home the 2015 Cornhole Champions title.

Event organizers were fortunate to have had sponsors donate prizes for the night’s events. Thank you to Summit Business Systems, Five Guys, Cookies-n-Cards, McAlister’s Deli and Dillards for their support of our students and Relay for Life. In the end, the event raised $1157.00 to go towards 2016 Relay for Life.
