Arlie Skov

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Arlie Skov. Mr. Skov was an active alumnus of MPGE, earning a BS in Petroleum Engineering in 1956; followed by a post graduate degree in Advanced Management from the University of Virginia in 1966.

Mr. Skov’s career includes various technical and managerial positions at Sohio Petroleum Co. and BP Exploration Inc., including manager of production planning, project advisor, and manager of new technology development with Sohio, and director of production technology and senior consultant at BP Exploration.

1993, Skov founded Arlie M. Skov, Inc. in Santa Barbara, CA where he consulted in area such as development, planning, economics and improved recovery until 2001.

Mr. Skov was an active member of SPE since joining the society in 1953. He held several offices, including chairman, in the Oklahoma City section. He served as a member of the Society’s Board of Directors from 1971 to 1974 and was named to several SPE ad hoc committees. He chaired the Reprint Series and Anthony F. Lucas Gold Medal committees. Mr. Skov was 1991 SPE President. He became an SPE Distinguished Member in 1985 and received the SPE Distinguished Service Award in 1988.

In addition to his work with SPE, Skov served on the AIME Board of Trustees in 1995 and 1996, and was granted Honorary Membership in 1998.

Since 1989, he served on MPGE’s Industry Advisory Board and, throughout his career, was a regular supporter of our programs.

  1. May he rest in peace. I had the privilege to meet him at our annual banquette in 2006 and enjoyed every single moment of our conversation during our dinner. He was a very kind person.
