Energy Department Funds New Projects

The U.S. Department of Energy has announced $29 million in funding for two projects at Sandia National Laboratories in Fallon, Nevada and the University of Utah in Milford for the establishment of a Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE), which will create an underground laboratory to conduct cutting-edge research on enhanced geothermal systems (EGS). Professor Ahmad Ghassemi, a leading researcher, professor and alumnus of OU’s petroleum engineering program, is a member of the research team at Milford and will contribute to the reservoir geomechanics aspects of the project.
