Students Engage with SPE OKC

SPE Oklahoma City section provides various opportunities for students to attend monthly technical talks at reduced rate. These talks often involve Subject Matter Experts and SPE Distinguished lecturers. The section also has specialized study groups on various disciplines such as drilling, reservoir and production. As a new initiative to engage students with industry experts, assistant professor Saeed Salehi has agreed to chair the SPE Drilling Study Group. In this role, he invites speakers and arranges technical meetings for SPE OKC section. Many OU students, including those within the graduate course Advanced Drilling, have been attending the talks.

At the September meeting, a representative from NOV gave a talk on new advancements in bit technology. October’s meeting, taking place on Thursday, October 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., will include a mud motor tear workshop presented by Panther Drilling Systems where attendees will get hands on experience with mud motors. These new activities increase student exposure to industry and allows them to get to know practical aspects of topics they learn in class.
