By this point, you have sent in your applications, you are getting ready for the holidays, and planning for the final semester of your high school career. You’ve probably also visited at least one or two campuses. Have you visited OU? What was your perception of our University?

I once heard perceptions described as “individual maps of reality.” That reminds me of the History of Journalism class I took as an undergrad at OU. How 5 people could be watching the same movie, or the same scene being played out in front of them, and be seeing something completely different. “Subjective reality” is how my professor labeled this concept. In the end, you will perceive situations in terms of how your past has shaped your views.

Your perception of a university is a major factor in where you will decide to go. You want to be proud of your university and see yourself on campus. As a high school student, your perception is shaped by your interaction with our students and especially your OU rep.

Many of the students I work with have heard me compare your first time on OU’s campus to your first day of high school. Do you remember it? Everything seemed so much bigger then. Now, as a senior, it’s easy to look around and see it in a manageable and personal light. Your perception changed the longer you were there. The same can be said about your time at OU.

Your first tour might be overwhelming. There is so much we want to show you, so much we are proud of, so much history and exciting opportunities. So come back! We love having prospective students on campus and we will find something new and fun for you to do every time you are here. By your second visit, you will already see your perception changing. You will begin to see yourself on campus and a part of the Sooner community.

So contact your OU rep. Find your rep here. Let us help you learn more about the amazing opportunities that await you as a Sooner. Let us help you plot your map to OU!
