Mondays are definitely not the most exciting thing: knowing you have five whole days of school before another weekend can be a bit overwhelming.  But last Monday, Sooners throughout campus had something more to look forward to than just the weekend – game day.  And not just any game, but the first home game of the season.  We all know that OU is known for its football (if you didn’t know, we’re ranked ranked number one in the nation right now).  Anyways, all week long I heard people talking about game day – the tailgates, Campus Corner, and of course, the game.  It all sounded so exciting, but when Saturday afternoon finally came around, my expectations were blown away.

My first glimpse of game day at OU came around 2 p.m. when I headed over to Campus Corner.  It was a sight to see: the roads were closed off, every patch of grass had a tent over it for tailgating, and the only colors to be seen in all directions were crimson and cream.  As for myself, I went to a buddy of mine’s tailgate, right next to the stadium, and hung out a few hours before kickoff.  But the real experience was in the stadium.  Over 85,000 people packed into the Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, where we faced off against Tulsa.  The entire stadium literally shook as all the fans roared the opening “Boomer, Sooner” chant.  As for the game itself, every play was exciting, and the evening ended with Oklahoma beating Tulsa 47-14 (which is what we all expected, anyways).  From watching the best team in the nation, to tailgating with good friends, to chanting in the stands, my first game day at OU was without a doubt the most memorable event since moving in, and made me even prouder to call myself a Sooner.
