Don’t Miss the University of Oklahoma’s Sooner Saturday!

Are you on the fence about Sooner Saturday? From this parent’s perspective it is totally worth the trip. Three big reasons …

That Chair is Really Big #SoonerSaturday

Sooner Saturday Fun!

Atmosphere.

Information.

Fun.

The atmosphere can’t be replicated. This is truly a family event. Some events are really geared to our soon-to-be independent adults. But this event was a family affair. I am not sure if it is meant to be this way, but Sooner Saturday was great for a family trip to Norman.

Conversations with other families going through the same steps you are creates connections. This is the first true engagement with OU as a future Sooner family. And it was everything. We left feeling like we were a part of something special.

The information was relevant and important. And there was a lot of it. A good piece of advice is to prepare to split up and conquer. At one point my daughter wanted to go to the session on the Study Abroad programs, and an important Financial Aid session was at the same time. She went to one, and I went to the other. We compared notes over lunch. And they were both great and we had the information we needed.

Speaking of lunch…. Don’t miss the opportunity to eat at Couch Restaurants. This is where we discovered that the dining plans include an all-you-can-eat Chick-Fil-A. I am not sure how we missed this before Sooner Saturday. When I asked my daughter what her favorite part of Sooner Saturday was, her immediate response was the all-you-can-eat Chick-Fil-A. I needed something a little bit more academic from her… So she relented and said it was getting to know the campus.

Fun. There are lots of interactive experiences. We didn’t get to do it all. But we caught up by following all the social media tags. So my next piece of advice is stay connected to social media.
I saw selfies with deans, lots of smiles and contagious excitement in all the posts. The Sooner Schooner ponies were social media rockstars that day. Getting much love on Instagram and Twitter. Lots of candids in the biggest picnic chair i have ever seen. And even a very rewarding scavenger hunt. So don’t forget to have fun. It is part of the whole experience.

As I said before, this is the first time we truly connected with The University of Oklahoma. Whether you have a high school junior, potential transfer student or a high school senior who missed out on it last year, there is something at Sooner Saturday for you.

Have fun. I will be looking for your posts on Instagram and Twitter. #SoonerSaturday
