What are the Residential Colleges?

At their core, the Residential Colleges are academic-focused social communities. The two colleges, Headington and Dunham, will house approximately 600 upperclass students total. These students also will be known as Fellows. The Fellows will enjoy spacious study and living spaces, a dining hall, classrooms and seminar rooms. Fellows from various backgrounds and academic interests will have the opportunity to learn from each other and create lasting friendships.

Each College will have one live-in Senior Fellow. A Senior Fellow is the presiding faculty member and chief academic adviser for the college.

Senior Fellow Keith Gaddie, a University of Oklahoma President’s Associates Presidential Professor, chairman of the Department of Political Science and associate director of the Center for Intelligence and National Security, will reside over Headington College.

Senior Fellow Mark Morvant, associate provost for Teaching and Technology, executive director of the Center for Teaching Excellence and a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, will reside over Dunham College.

Hear what they have to say about the Residential Colleges in the short video below!

What are they all about?

The University of Oklahoma is all about community, and the Residential Colleges take this idea one step further. Students will be able to build this community through High Table dinners, intramural teams and study sessions in the library. The Residential Colleges are built around an Achievement Program of engagement, enrichment and excellence. This program is centered around the development of the student through academic programs, creative skills activities and cultural experiences. At the completion of the program, Fellows have the opportunity to graduate with honors from their college. Additionally, Fellows will be eligible for an Academic Success Rebate. This rebate recognizes and rewards students for their hard work in the classroom and will be applied at the end of each semester based on the student’s GPA.

In addition to the excellent programs, Fellows have the opportunity to spend their years at the university living on campus and within walking distance of their classes, football games and all campus resources. Parking will be convenient as Fellows will have access to the parking garage located next door. Fellows won’t have to wander far to find delicious eats either! Each college houses a dining hall that offers many options, and fellows can choose from two different meal plans that offer meals and meal plan points. Each college also is equipped with storm shelters and spacious outdoor courtyards.

Who are they for?

Upperclass students and current freshmen are encouraged to apply to live amongst a diverse population of students. Fellows will represent a wide variety of majors, interests and backgrounds. Community is key, and those looking to build relationships and connect to a smaller group on campus can find their place here.

When can your student move in?

The Residential Colleges will open in fall 2017. Applications are currently available and all upperclass students and current freshmen are encouraged to apply!
