5 Things To Do If You Are Staying On Campus This Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving-01Ready for Thanksgiving? Whether you are a freshman or an upperclassman, we know you’re looking forward to escaping the thought of final exams, celebrating the things you’re thankful for and enjoying a Thanksgiving feast. While many students will be traveling home, others will stick around here this Thanksgiving. If you’re staying on campus, here are five ways to enjoy your Thanksgiving break.

  1. Enjoy the Peace and Quiet

A typical college student’s life can consist of project deadlines, exams and extracurricular activities. As you walk down the South Oval, you swerve through the crowd New-York style, walking fast during the afternoon rush. So much happens on a daily basis that you can forget to admire the beauty of our campus. Enjoy the serenity around you. Look at the leaves changing colors. Slow down and savor a meal at your favorite spot on campus.

  1. Catch Up on Sleep

While you enjoy the tranquility, re-energize yourself by getting that extra sleep you’ve been waiting for this semester. You deserve a night of worry-free sleep. Why not take some of that extra time you will have on campus and sleep a full eight hours (…or more)?

  1. Keep it Healthy

Rise and shine! Use that extra energy gained after catching up on sleep to run the Norman Turkey Day 5K on Thanksgiving morning. Not only will you start your Thanksgiving healthy and strong, but you also will  be helping the Cleveland County Habitat for Humanity by contributing to adequate housing for a family in need. It is a win-win for everyone!

  1. Thanksgiving Meal with Your OU Family

After running the 5K, enjoy a warm, homemade meal with your OU family by attending the OU Thanksgiving meal in Cate Restaurants from noon-1:30 p.m. It’s open to all student residents. Take this opportunity to make new friends and celebrate the things you are thankful for this year. Make sure to have your Sooner Card to swipe at the entrance.

  1. Go Black Friday Shopping

Now that you have enjoyed a nice meal and have spent time with your OU family, it’s time to prepare for the Black Friday adventure! Get your holiday shopping done early and take advantage of all the sales. Invite other students and shop as a group. Don’t forget to include the Oklahoma City shopping centers like the Penn Square and Quail Springs malls!
