Our Favorite Moments from Fall 2016

A new semester has arrived, and amid the excitement of new moments to come, we took some time to gather our favorite memories from fall 2016.

Produce from the Leafy Green Machine was served at Cate Restaurants during a kickoff event for OU’s first Freight Farm.

Freight Farms
As part of the university’s initiative for a more sustainable campus, OU teamed up with the student organization OUr Earth to incorporate a Freight Farms Leafy Green Machine into our campus dining efforts. This upcycled shipping container has the technology to harvest crops year round. In its initial stages, OU’s Leafy Green Machine will have room to grow lettuces, brassicas and herbs, which will be used in Cate Restaurants and other dining locations on campus.

Students welcome the OU class of 2020 during this year’s Move-In.

Move-In Days
This year’s Move-In saw OU’s largest freshman class move into the residence halls and begin college. Employees and volunteers from across campus were stationed from the Lloyd Noble Center and all along Asp Avenue helping students and parents move into Cate, David L. Boren, Walker, Adams and Couch centers.

Students line up to order Baja Fresh after it opened in Aug.

Baja Fresh Express
Baja Fresh Express was this year’s newest dining addition to the Oklahoma Memorial Union. With fresh Tex-Mex options, students can pick a light lunch with a flare of Tex-Mex flavor. The dining options include tacos, burritos, quesadillas and nachos with side options of rice, guacamole and more. The addition of Baja Fresh Express added even more variety to the Union food court’s list of dining options.

Campus Coffee Crawl
The fourth annual Campus Coffee Crawl featured five campus coffee locations including Bedrock, Bookmark, Union Starbucks, Roscoes and Einstein Bros. Bagels. Using the hashtag #CampusCoffeeCrawl, 524 students, faculty and staff members tweeted their photos from each location for a T-shirt and a chance to win one of the Campus Coffee Crawl mugs. In addition to the mugs, we also had ambassadors from each location, known as Coffee Crawl Connoisseurs. This year’s Coffee Crawl was full of firsts and fun, and we can’t wait to see what year five holds!

The fall 2016 semester was a semester of firsts for us with the addition of Baja Fresh and the Leafy Green Machine, just to name a few. However, we also enjoyed our annual events including freshman Move-In and the Campus Coffee Crawl. With the fall semester behind us, we’re looking ahead to see what future semesters will bring us at OU Housing and Food Services!
