Must-See Halloween Movies

Who doesn’t love a good movie? Halloween will be here on Wednesday, and the MarCom interns thought it would be a good idea to come up with a list of three must-see Halloween movies that truly celebrate the spooky season. If you’re staying in, grab your roommate and stream one of our favorites!

  1. “Ghostbusters”

This is not just a Halloween classic, but an all-time classic movie starring Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray. The three main characters are parapsychologists teaching at Colombia University with a curiosity for the paranormal. They lose their jobs after a failed ghost investigation in the university library. This causes them to establish Ghostbusters, and they develop high-tech equipment to fight and capture ghosts. They start their business with success but are shut down by a lawyer for the environmental protection agency. The lawyer accidentally releases Gozer, god of destruction, and forces the Ghostbusters to be released from jail to fight the god.

  1. “Hocus Pocus”

This movie is a huge fan favorite starring Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker as three witch sisters. The plot takes place in Salem, Massachusetts, 1693 on Halloween night. The three sisters cast a spell on a young girl to take her youth, but as a result, they are persecuted by the village. Just before they are hanged, their spellbook saves them and will resurrect them when there is a full moon on the eve of Halloween if a virgin lights the Black Flame Candle. Three hundred years later, the witches are inadvertently resurrected by a few unknowing kids. The witches must accomplish their goals before sunrise or they will dissolve. Meanwhile, the kids are trying to stop the witches.  As the story reaches its end, the kids must make the ultimate decision.

  1. “Sleepy Hollow”

Sleepy Hollow is a supernatural horror film starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci. The plotline goes that in 1799, upstate Dutch is plagued by decapitations and the police are dispatched. The locals believe the culprit is the ghost of a former mercenary from the American Revolution. The police are led on an incredible chase to figure out what is going on. They are led to a crone in a cave, to the grave of the horseman and finally, deduce all the targets (which continue to mount). The plot thickens as more deaths mount, and more lines intersect until the plot comes to a head. It is truly a thriller.

These are the three best movies our interns could come up with to truly celebrate Halloween. They deliver a mix of humor and horror to everyone! We would love to hear your favorite movies in the comment section, too!
