MPGE Welcomed Visiting Delegates from China University of Petroleum

A group of professors and officials from China University of Petroleum (East China) visited MPGE on Feb. 25. The visiting delegates included Prof. Chengyan Lin (Dean of School of Geoscience), Prof. Baojing Sun (Dean of School of Petroleum Engineering), Ms. Xiaomei Wang (Director of Department of Collaboration and Development), Prof. Kai Zhang (Director of Office of Talents Development) and Mr. Jiqing Zhang (Staff of Office of Talents Development). China University of Petroleum (East China) and University of Oklahoma are both top tier, research-oriented institutes in the petroleum and geoscience disciplines. The purposes of this meeting included recruiting OU outstanding researchers and scholars, welcoming OU faculty-led study abroad in Qingdao in May, 2018, and enhancing potential collaborations in education and research.

MCEE Dean J. Mike Stice, MPGE director Dr. Rai, MCEE director of International Programs Loy Macari, MCEE Study Abroad Specialist Wyatt Schmitz and MPGE professor Dr. Wu warmly welcomed the delegates. Two students from MPGE attended the meeting as the representatives of the student body who are attending the study-abroad program in Qingdao.

Following the meeting, the delegates hosted an information session with help from the Oklahoma Chinese Petroleum Association. As an alumnus of China University of Petroleum (East China) and MPGE, Dr. Xingru Wu hosted the information session and gave an introduction talk on “Why, What, When and How to Be a Professor.” The information session was intended by Ph.D. candidates and post-doc researchers who are interested in a full-time faculty position. The information session attracted more than 50 graduate students, post-docs, current OU professors and a dozen visitors from other U.S. states.

China University of Petroleum (East China) located in Qingdao, is a coastal city in Shandong Province. China University of Petroleum is a national key university directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education and a member of the “211 Project” and the “985 Innovation Platform for Preponderant Discipline” universities, which has been listed in national “Double First-rate” construction in colleges and universities.

Two disciplines, Oil and Natural Gas Engineering and Geological Resources and Geological Engineering, are listed in the national “Double First-rate” construction in disciplines. There are five State Key Disciplines which are Mineral Survey and Exploration, Oil and Gas Well Drilling Engineering, Oil and Gas Field Development Engineering, Chemical Technology and finally, Oil and Gas Storage & Transportation Engineering. It has two State Key Disciplines (foster), which are Earth Detection and Information Technology (Nurturing) and Industrial Catalysis (Nurturing). Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science and Earth Science and other disciplines have entered ESI global science ranking top 1%. Subject majors cover all fields of petroleum and petrochemical industry, and the overall level of main petroleum disciplines take the leading position in China.
