2018 Annual OU SPE Golf Classic

After a three-year hiatus, the University of Oklahoma’s Society of Petroleum Engineers (OU SPE) brought back the annual golf tournament fundraiser. The event was hosted Friday, September 7th at Winter Creek Golf and Country Club in Blanchard, OK.

Despite the all-day rain, over 70 professionals from the energy industry, stretching from OKC to Midland and beyond, came out to play some golf and support our students. We had over 20 students in attendance between company-sponsored student players and volunteers. Participants started off the day enjoying Torchy’s Tacos sponsored by OEC Fiber, before heading out to the course.

Throughout the day, participants had the chance to meet with our students and learn about what OU SPE does on campus. They got to learn about the exciting research and internships that our students have been a part of, and provide some guidance on working in the energy sector. Even in the rain, the teams were having a good time chatting with students and conquering the adverse weather conditions. After play ended, everyone came inside to dry off and grab some lunch during the reception. There, OU SPE announced the winners of the raffle prizes, and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams who got to take home brand-new drivers, putters and wedges, respectively.

At the end of the day, OU SPE brought in a profit of over $18,000, indicating a very successful fundraiser. OU SPE would like to once again thank Winter Creek for their fantastic service while hosting the event, and all of our sponsors and participants! These profits will be used to help fund this year’s student trip to ATCE, as well as some other travel expenses to the North American Student Symposium in the spring. They are grateful to all those who supported our students in this endeavor and hope they all know the huge impact they have had on our students’ lives.
