OU Faculty Senate Honors MPGE Professor with Prestigious Award

The OU Faculty Senate recognized Dr. Siddharth Misra by awarding him the Ed Cline Faculty Development Award for his project Machine-Learning for Geoscience Research and Teaching.

The faculty development fund was created by President Boren to provide support to enhance the professional development of the faculty. In 2008, the awards were named after Prof. Ed Cline (Mathematics) who while Chair of the Faculty Senate during 2002-03 was instrumental in their creation. The faculty development fund provides support for all aspects of a faculty member’s mission including teaching. Preference is given to new, non-routine special projects or to helping individuals seize special opportunities, rather than to such routine activities as traveling to regular professional conferences to give papers. Awards are made once a year.

Dr. Misra will use the award to build computational infrastructure for computationally intensive machine-learning implementations compatible with dataset close to 100GB in size. This computational infrastructure will facilitate the development of machine-learning workflows to process large subsurface dataset for improved subsurface geomechanical and fluid-transport characterization critical to environmental safety and economic productivity.
