This is my first Boomer Blog post, and I’m not exactly sure what to write about.  Now, over the course of the year I have grandiose plans of covering a wide variety of topics and offering all sorts of insight, but for this post I think I will just talk about the classes I’m currently taking.  This is because, against all odds, I think I love my schedule right now.

On Monday and Wednesday mornings I have Intro to Professional Writing.  I am very fortunate to have a teacher who places a heavy emphasis on getting articles published.  As such, since the beginning of the semester I have started writing reviews for a website that gets 50,000 hits a day.  Several days a week I get packages in the mail with CDs, DVDs, books, and various other items that I write about and get published.  These items are mine to keep.  Oh yeah, my writing skills have also already increased dramatically.

I’m also taking a class called Systems of Criminal Justice.  My long-term career goal is to attend law school, so I figured this would be an apropos upper-division elective.  I took a class last semester that was taught by the same professor, and he is fantastic.  The subject matter is incredibly interesting; this week we watched a documentary about the origins of the terrifying Crips gang.

History of Journalism meets twice a week.  This class also shows a fair amount of documentaries, but the topics covered always hold my interest.  I’m a bit of a history fan anyway, and learning how the media essentially convinced the country to start the Spanish-American war is fascinating.  Also, our professor dressed up as Zorro two weeks ago.  With the mask and everything.  No joke.

Freedom in Greece is so great that I’ll dedicate an entire post to it in the future.  The professor is one of the most skilled lecturers I’ve ever heard.  This week one of my friends attended class just to hear about the Battle of Thermopylae—he isn’t in the class, but he willingly came to the lecture solely for entertainment purposes.  That is the mark of a truly gifted speaker.

Lastly, I’m on the Wire class this semester.  The Wire is the campus radio station, and because I’m in the class I have my own radio show for two hours a week.  I can talk about whatever I want and play whatever music I want.

That is my schedule for this semester.  Hopefully, in some small way, you at least now understand and appreciate how I can possibly enjoy it so much.
