This is actually not the greatest blog in the world, this is just a tribute.

Since this is my first blog, it fits into the category of an introductory blog. My name is Shaun Houser. I’m six feet-two inches tall, and weigh a hundred and ninety pounds. I used to be able to two-hand dunk a basketball until I got fat and lazy. My likes are long walks on the beach, football, and Robot Unicorn Attack. My dislikes are spiders, scorpions, and carnival folk (all three terrify me). I am a super-senior philosophy major with a minor in classical culture. It’s my pre-law.

Senior year is the greatest thing ever. If you did things right during your time as an undergraduate student, by your senior year you will already know everyone, have done everything, and built an enduring legacy for yourself on this campus. I’m not a senior. I’m a super senior. According to Wiktionary (don’t ever use this as a scholarly resource), the word ‘super’ means: better than average, better than usual; wonderful. This does not apply to a super-senior. A super-senior is a person who has failed to graduate in the normal four years it takes. During my first weeks back to school, I have been constantly faced with uncomfortable questions, such as: “I thought you graduated”; “oh, are you going to grad school here”; and worst of all, “you’re still at OU, how old are you?”

There is, however, a silver lining on the stormy clouds of super-senior-dom. I get to stay in college even longer! Not just any college, however: the greatest college ever! For me, the University of Oklahoma has been the perfect fit. The campus is beautiful. It really elevates you and makes you want to succeed in this sort of environment. The school is big, but not too big. Most of our classes have fewer than twenty students in them. I’ve only had two large classes and they were Freedom in Rome and Freedom in Greece. Students fight to be able to get into these classes, offered by Dr. Fears, who keeps all three-hundred of his students riveted from start to finish in his lectures. Our football team is continuously among the best in the nation, which builds serious pride and school spirit in the student body (visit campus on a game day and you’ll understand what I mean). Our basketball team is usually pretty darn good as well. Our Greek system is among the top in the nation and our student programs and organizations are top rate. OU is also undoubtedly one of the best academic schools in the region.

These are just a few of the reason why I don’t cry myself to sleep every night over the fact that I have yet to graduate. My Van Wilder-esque college lifestyle however is coming to an abrupt halt at the end of this semester. With that in mind, I’m going to take this opportunity as a blogger to both relay to you what it’s like to be a super-senior, who’s lived his college days to the fullest, and is now about ready to graduate and prepare for law school, as well as share with you some of my fondest memories from this university.

Stay tuned!

Try being the 26 year old. I’ve been on this campus going on 7 years now. Tradition never graduates and I guess I don’t either.
