In the fall, football is my all-time favorite sport to watch. During the game against Mizzou last weekend, the most beautiful sunset took place. It was gorgeous! This was such a special moment, with the band playing and the fans all cheering. I sat in the student section but happened to be very high up in the stands this game. Even when you’re high up in the stands, everyone is so excited to be at the game and to be a part of the Sooner family. One of my favorite moments of the game is before the game even starts. Every week at home, they play a video that shows all of the players and Coach Stoops. When he says “there’s only one Oklahoma” the crowd roars with excitement. It’s amazing! If you haven’t been to a game yet, I would definitely recommend coming out and supporting the team! Even if you’re not a student here, you will definitely get the same feeling of excitement that everyone has. BOOMER SOONER!

Three times a week at 9:30 in the morning, I walk across campus to Boyd Street for my Expository writing class. Expository writing is the alternative option to Composition II, and if you’ve opted out of Comp I (your default first English class) through AP tests or college credit, you’ll have the option to take an Expo class your first semester.

Well, it is officially my senior year. I am not sure if I have come to believe that to be true though. I am currently on my porch writing, doing homework, and listening to some of my favorite music in shorts and a sweatshirt, which is my all time favorite outfit. The weather has been absolutely beautiful this week so I have been staying outside as much as possible.

Not only do I get to wear my favorite outfit, but I have been drinking my favorite drink…pumpkin spice latte (for all you Starbucks lovers you know my excitement). But what is even more exciting than all of those things is the fact that it is 45 days until HOMECOMING.

Mondays are definitely not the most exciting thing: knowing you have five whole days of school before another weekend can be a bit overwhelming.  But last Monday, Sooners throughout campus had something more to look forward to than just the weekend – game day.  And not just any game, but the first home game of the season.  We all know that OU is known for its football (if you didn’t know, we’re ranked ranked number one in the nation right now).  Anyways, all week long I heard people talking about game day – the tailgates, Campus Corner, and of course, the game.  It all sounded so exciting, but when Saturday afternoon finally came around, my expectations were blown away.

Today’s August 22nd, the first day of my sophomore year, and I can’t believe it’s already here. This summer I studied abroad in Peru for a month with OU’s new Journey to Latin America program. I can safely say this was the best experience of my college career, granted I’ve only been here for one year! After I returned, I was a counselor at Camp Crimson, OU’s orientation camp for incoming freshmen and transfer students. A high energy weekend full of teaching OU traditions, boat races and pool parties, leadership development activities, and new friends, Camp was a great way to cap off my summer.

Spring semester ended in a whirlwind, but it was an enjoyable whirlwind at that.  So many things on campus were happening as May approached that made finding time to do anything outside of schoolwork and school-related activities difficult.  Highlights included The Big Event (OUs Official Day of Community Service), Sooner Scandals (Outstanding musical theatre-esque performances put on by groups from around campus), and, while I wouldn’t exactly call it a highlight, mountains of time spent writing end of the semester papers, completing assignments, and studying for tests. I also enjoyed being able to walk a little south of the dorms to watch OU Baseball or Basketball games when we found a little spare time. It was great fun participating in or going to watch things like this as the school year wound down.

My grades turned out very well making for happy parents and a great beginning of the summer. I’ve traveled a bit, taking a small trip to Colorado and some other minor trips around the state, but what’s been most astounding to me is all of the places studies and service are taking people I met this year at OU!  Thanks to Facebook, I’ve seen pictures from all around the world. South Africa, Russia, Spain, France, Germany, England, China, and Chile are just a few of the places OU can send you! To be able to travel at this time in life is such a great thing, and the opportunities that OU and the OU Education Abroad Office allow you to realize are just one of the reasons you should strongly consider OU as you make a college decision.

Sooner.

The majority of students at The University of Oklahoma do not know what this word means.  They have accepted it because of tradition.  Yet in fact, students are probably unaware they are following in the footsteps of thousands of Sooners before them or that they embody exactly the same energy.  Those who know anything about the word “Sooner” might wonder why we are named after those who cheated by coming into Oklahoma before the unassigned lands were officially open. But they do not realize there is so much more to the word “Sooner.”
