How to make the big bucks…

Many students have this idea instilled in them that with a college degree, you will be rolling in the big bucks once you graduate.  That may not be the case for many majors, especially with the economy at a low point for the time being.

The salary of many entry level jobs out of college start in the low $30’s.  It could take years to make the $40-$70K that you thought your degree automatically got for you.  However, there are some jobs out there that can get you those high salaries, and one is Pharmaceutical Sales.

Breaking into the Pharmaceutical Sales Industry can take 6-8 months.  So you will need a little patience along with some time management skills because you will need to start your search early.

Some things they look for are:

  • ANY Major/Degree
  • Documented Sales Experience
  • Overall Excellence (holding a job or participating in athletics while maintaining a good GPA)
  • Consistency in activities (volunteering with the same charity every year)

The main characteristics companies are looking for is how you present yourself, honesty, competitiveness, being a self-starter, showing initiative, ability to problem-solve, working well with counterparts, and good communication skills.

Ready to find out how you get an interview?

  • NETWORK!
  • Find someone in the industry
  • Go to your doctor’s office and get every single sales rep’s business card
  • Speak with recruiters
  • *KEY*- Find a district manager!  (many companies offer a bonus to a current employee who recommends a candidate for hire)

What should I wear?
Dress like you would dress to be in the presence of the owner of a company.  How you appear to the interviewer is how you will appear to the doctor.  Initial impact is important!

  • Ladies-A skirt suit is preferred, don’t forget the hose!
  • Gentlemen-Wear a suit and tie. No facial hair, and let go of that college hairdo!

You will only have 30 seconds to 1 minute to sell yourself to the interviewer and the same applies to selling your product to a doctor.  Practice that pitch!
