Hulu – it’s the evil plot to destroy the world and it’s no secret. Obviously, as Alec Baldwin, Eliza Dushku, and Seth MacFarlane have been broadcasting the plot.
But, what really is Hulu?
Well, it’s TV. Lots of TV, actually. New TV, old TV, web TV, and, well, anything else TV really (like anime). Oh, and it’s movies too. Lots of different types, from new to old to independent.
Hulu is, in short, a web-based video-on-demand site. It even ranks number 2 as the largest web video site with around 350 million videos and around 9 million users.
Youtube remains number 1. This is probably because Youtube plays to a different demographic with videos about people and animals doing silly things and fan-made music videos.
So, is visiting and signing up for Hulu worth it?
Definitely.
There are hours upon hours of entertainment streamed into Hulu. It’s thrilling, exciting, and is definitely turning our brains to mush (ahhh well!).
A joint venture of NBC Universal and FOX (News Corp), Hulu hosts shows from all over. Including Comedy Central, Sci-Fi, FX, and Sundance. So, basically, from The Colbert Report to Battlestar Galactica to Family Guy, Hulu has is all.
Not to mention, it’s an easy place to find all the shows you’ve missed without having to navigate a dozen independent broadcaster sites! What a way to cut out the middle man…sorta.
Even the name, Hulu, was decided upon to encompass these ideas. As claimed by the company’s blog.
In Mandarin, Hulu has two interesting meanings, each highly relevant to our mission. The primary meaning interested us because it is used in an ancient Chinese proverb that describes the Hulu as the holder of precious things. It literally translates to “gourd,” and in ancient times, the Hulu was hollowed out and used to hold precious things. The secondary meaning is “interactive recording.” We saw both definitions as appropriate bookends and highly relevant to the mission of Hulu.
So, support the evil plot to destroy the world and join Hulu today! It’s worth your time and the brain to mush consequence.

I love Hulu. Aside from offering an extraordinary service the site is very nice and easy to navigate.
Hulu is currently featuring DIG which is a great documentary about Rock n’ Roll featuring The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols. Highly recommended!

AHH! Hulu is amazing! They are the ones that introduced me to my years late, but newfound, passion of Buffy the Vampire Slayer because they have the first three seasons and now I’m hooked!

I didn’t realize how much I loved Hulu until this semester when I came to China for a study abroad. Hulu isn’t available here, and that makes me sad.
