A Public Service Announcement

Or, less eloquently: whinewhinewhine.

Here’s the deal: I got robbed. This post isn’t an invitation to the pity party, never fear, but rather a bit of useful info I gleaned from the whole messy ordeal. Have an Xbox 360? Playstation 3? Nintendo Wii or some other big, fancy box? Drop what you’re doing right now and record their serial numbers somewhere safe. My roommates and I collectively lost all three of those things, but hope glimmers on the horizon now that we’ve learned about a nifty trick the police department has at its disposal.

If you have the serial number of a stolen console, the police can search for it within a database of every pawn shop in the area (and even across the States, I hear). Pretty nice, eh? We haven’t taken advantage of the service yet, so I can’t vouch for its success rate, but on paper it sounds like the easiest way to find your items if they’ve made it out of the hands of villains and into a second-hand store.

Just a little FYI to kick off the rest of the week. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have three final papers due next week and absolutely no desire to write them. Fetal position, here I come!

I can vouch for the service. My bicycle was stolen from campus, and even though I didn’t have the serial number, my description was able to locate it. It turned up in the database within 3 days of my reporting it stolen!
