Movie Rundown

Here’s the quick December 25th movie release rundown:

Sherlock Holmes – Robert Downey Jr. looks brilliant in this renovated Holmes tale. Jude Law is the perfect actor to keep up with Downey’s Sherlock-ian charisma.

This tale is a lot darker and a little more adult than what the trailer lets on to it being. Holmes and Watson have just successfully solved the case of Lord Blackwood, a serial killer and occult “sorcerer”. But, the case isn’t as over as they thought. Blackwood has mysteriously returned from the grave and has resumed his killing.

In the mix is Watson’s new fiancée, the dimwitted head of Scotland Yard, and the clever temptress Irene Adler (Sherlock fans all over will know that name well).

This movie is a twisted web of deceit, murder, and “black magic”.

It looks amazing.

It’s Complicated Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin are the stars of this film and it just looks hilarious. If Holmes is too dark for your tastes, this rule-breaking romantic comedy will probably have you in the stitches the whole way through.

It’s about an ex-wife and husband having an affair with each other. Alec Baldwin is married to a much younger woman, which makes Meryl Streep the “other woman”. To top it off, while having their affair, Steve Martin starts to fall for Streep.

It’s…complicated.

And funny.

Nine This movie has an all-star cast with Daniel Day-Lewis, Penelope Cruz, Dame Judy Dench, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Stacy Ferguson, and Marion Cotillard.

It’s a musical that follows the life of world famous film director Guido Contini, who’s having a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion. And, at the same time, he’s juggling numerous women – his wife, his mistress, his film star “muse”, his confidant, his costume designer, his mother, and the whore from his youth.

It should be interesting.

My holiday recommendation (in case you couldn’t tell): Sherlock Holmes!

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Jolly Festivus for the rest of us!
