Dance Marathon is a special event that Campus Activities Council (CAC) hosts each year. Different organizations on campus have been the host of this event, and it has not been too long since CAC adopted it as one of its official events.  I am proud to say that this year Dance Marathon raised over $73,000 to support Children’s Miracle Network, and that this amount was doubled by Children’s Hospital Foundation to equal over $146,000 to Children’s Miracle Network.

Every morning before I decide what to wear, I must check “The Weather Channel” app on my phone. In the last two weeks, I have gone from shorts and a t-shirt to bundling up in anything I could find to keep warm! Needless to say, Oklahoma weather is as dynamic as this great university.

Similar to the weather, the OU campus changes dramatically every day. You could walk to class and discover a new student organization handing out pizza or sub-sandwiches on the South Oval, or learn about a new cause that you want to support. Hundreds of organizations exist on this campus, and new ones pop up every week. As we approach the spring season, campus-wide elections are just around the corner.

“Yeah, I’m going to need to leave work early on Monday because I am kinda responsible for this sorority at NYU.”  It felt awkward uttering the request to my manager at work, but here’s the deal.  I loved being in a sorority at OU.  I met a ton of people and felt a deeper connection to my campus.  It’s the same feeling everyone gets from being involved at OU – that strong sense of commitment and community at OU by getting involved and connecting with other groups on campus.

Sooner.

The majority of students at The University of Oklahoma do not know what this word means.  They have accepted it because of tradition.  Yet in fact, students are probably unaware they are following in the footsteps of thousands of Sooners before them or that they embody exactly the same energy.  Those who know anything about the word “Sooner” might wonder why we are named after those who cheated by coming into Oklahoma before the unassigned lands were officially open. But they do not realize there is so much more to the word “Sooner.”

This summer I could be here!

I hope to study abroad this coming summer in Peru!! Just a few minutes ago I submitted the last portions of my application on the OU Education Abroad website. Needless to say, I’m excited. It’s crazy to think that just a few months from now the time to board a plane will have come and I’ll be off to South America.

Counting on official acceptance to the program, on June 16 my study abroad experience will begin in Lima, Peru. This OU program, titled Journey to Latin America, is just one of several OU Journey Programs offered by this university.  Designed exclusively for OU students and taking them to places all over the world from China to Italy to Latin America, OU’s Journey Programs give you a broad introduction and study into the cultures and locations that they visit.  All class work is done in English, so no prior language knowledge is required! I’m working on becoming fluent in Spanish and hope to have a more intensive language study abroad experience sometime in the future, but know that I’ll still be able to practice my Spanish this summer while in Peru. I can’t wait for the experiences that await me! Besides spending time studying in Lima, this trip will take me to Machu Picchu, Cuzco, the Amazon Jungle, and other locales! I’ll be earning class credit the entire time! Read more

Long time and no post! My life has been hectic lately. Here’s what’s new:

I changed my major. Well…sort of. I’m still a Microbiology major (technically), but I am no longer Pre-Med. I really started having doubts about becoming a physician my first semester of sophomore year, and it all accumulated the first week of spring semester when I just KNEW I no longer wanted to go to medical school and become a physician. So. Do I feel bad? ABSOLUTELY NOT! I actually feel very light and extremely happy. I’m enjoying everything so much more now, knowing that I’m finally going into a degree program where I know I will be more than happy in my future career.
