School’s out for summer! I’m sure by now you have reset your alarm clock to 10 a.m., found the closest swimming pool, and bought midnight tickets to Harry Potter. Summer is a great time to relax and refresh. It’s also a great time to get a jump start on one of the most challenging steps in the college search and application process…scholarships.

Searching for college scholarships is as big as searching for constellations. They are out there; you just have to know what you are looking for. Scholarships can come directly from colleges and universities, alumni clubs, corporations, and local community organizations.

“Yeah, I’m going to need to leave work early on Monday because I am kinda responsible for this sorority at NYU.”  It felt awkward uttering the request to my manager at work, but here’s the deal.  I loved being in a sorority at OU.  I met a ton of people and felt a deeper connection to my campus.  It’s the same feeling everyone gets from being involved at OU – that strong sense of commitment and community at OU by getting involved and connecting with other groups on campus.

Hello Prospective Sooners! I am an alumni blogger, and in my first entry here I would like to share some of my experiences as a student in the Weitzenhoffer Family College of Art and Art History.

I hail from Plano, Texas and I graduated from OU in 2007 with a degree in Art History. After graduation, I moved to New York City to attend NYU for graduate school, and in 2009 I earned a Master’s in Museum Studies. Currently, I work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and I can honestly say that I credit much of the success I’ve had in my life so far to my experiences at OU. The four years I spent in Norman encompassed so many fulfilling and meaningful moments, and OU will always hold a special place in my heart–ask anyone who’s ever encountered me–I never stop talking about the University of Oklahoma!

During my tenure at OU I was able to forge some incredible relationships with my professors, and I think that is one of the keys to making the most of the college experience. One of the greatest things about OU is how accessible professors are to students–there was nary a time when one of my professors was not able to make some time to discuss what we were learning about in class, or even just to chat. I might be biased, but I think the School of Art is a gem, and the enthusiasm the professors impart on the subject matter they teach is palpable in every class session.

“Are you kidding me?  We have 55 friends in common!  How do I not know this person?”

Maybe I should start from the beginning.  I work in accounting consulting for Deloitte in New York City, and we started a project for Bank of America in Charlotte, North Carolina.  A plus to the new project – strong Big XII representation on the project. On our team of ten or so, we have someone from Texas A&M, someone from University of Nebraska, and myself from University of Oklahoma.
