Runar Nygaard accepted the position of Director of the Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering this past summer. Nygaard is originally from Norway but joins Mewbourne from Oklahoma State University. At OSU, he was the Petroleum Engineering Program Director and held the Harold Courson Chair in Petroleum Engineering.
Earning a doctorate degree in Geomechanics in 2004, Dr. Nygaard completed his studies at the University of Oslo. His speciality is in petroleum geomechanics and wellbore integrity. Nygaard’s research and projects revolve around drilling efficiency in hard rock for geothermal energy, sensor deployment in wells, and plug and abandonment of offshore wells.
