Hi, everyone!

Sorry for not writing in a while. It’s been a bit busy for me since finals are practically right around the corner. That’s right. FINALS TIME. I still cannot believe that my first semester as an OU student is almost over. The time has passed by super quick and it still hasn’t fully hit me yet that my freshman year is halfway over. Ah, how time flies.

Anyway. Updates. I took my fourth O. Chem exam last week and was quite proud when I found that I made a 100. I was very, very happy. Not much to say about O. Chem in this blog. We’ve been doing quite well, though. Very low-energy and stable relationship (a little O. Chem joke there!). I also took my third Calc exam. I got an 89, which I’m quite pleased with since I was just so absolutely sure that I would make at least a 75. 89? I’ll definitely cope with an 89. I also had a Gateway quiz and an Art exam last week. I believe I did well on those as well. Overall, I have been achieving good grades in my classes and I can only hope that my finals will have the same results.

But after Finals are over….CHRISTMAS BREAK!!!  Whoooop! =]

That’s all for now. Will write more later!

Boomer Sooner!

So as finals are on everyone’s minds, eggnog and ornaments are on mine. Knowing that a month of pure family, fun, and relaxation is two weeks away is killing me, but luckily, I have supportive friends to remind me that I have to focus just a little bit longer. Honestly, I know I can get through my finals easy because my teachers are so amazing, they really have all made me feel blessed, but I have this procrastination problem. It got out of hand for a while but I got over it, then… it began to come back, haha. Like I said, my friends are amazing and have pushed me to just focus and to relax. They silence my iphone, which is about 15 distractions in itself, and log me out of facebook. It’s really helped and I encourage everyone to just try it. I notice so much more that’s going on, and I’ve actually started to finish homework way before it’s even due. Plus, I’m getting my beauty sleep! Finally!

The week preceding Finals Week is collectively referred to as Dead Week. I am not exactly sure of the reason for this macabre nickname, but I have a few guesses. Read more

I think my fever broke. That – or I’m just so generally warmed up from drinking tea that I can’t tell at the moment.

I never get sick. Like, I might get the sniffles for a couple days then it will bounce off my jolly green vegan immune system and back into the sparkling November air. Don’t worry, this isn’t even comparable to last semester’s finals week throat infection that knocked me out cold for a week.

Anyway, as a student activist born of hippie parents – I drink tea when I’m sick. Lots of it. And I love Yogi tea, not just because the tea itself is delicious (doesn’t really need sweetener at all), but because each tea bag has a little tag printed with a reassuring truism. Tonight’s second cup read “Uplift everybody and uplift yourself.”

You are back from Thanksgiving, you had enough turkey, dressing, stuffing, and pies to last you a lifetime.  You have been following this blog all semester taking our advice, so I know you have gone on your initial school visits, narrowed down your list of schools of interest, sent in your applications early, and if you applied early enough, you have started receiving acceptance letters.  Many of you might be asking yourselves what’s next.  Let me put it to you this way; you can look at the college application process as a race.  You want to get out of the blocks quickly, keep your pace up, and most importantly, you want to finish strong.

One fun thing I just started this semester (a little late to be starting things, I know) is participating in the Language Exchange Program here at OU. I have three international students– one from Kuwait, one from Africa somewhere (speaks French), and one from Korea (I think)– and basically we get together for an hour once a week or so and speak English. That’s it. So I now have three new friends.

Well, I have only met one so far, but I’m sure the other two will be just as much fun. Yesterday I met Ahmad, an 18-yr-old freshman from Kuwait who has 18 siblings (TEN brothers, EIGHT sisters), two mothers, is a middle child, and is the only one of his brothers to get good grades and to go on to university (and to study in the United States). Fascinating kid. I can’t wait to learn more about a different culture and help him make more friends here in the U.S.

I saw the posters, and I heard the rumors, but never did I expect what happened in my life on Thursday……

I woke up that morning to my room-mate screaming about her new laptop. I didn’t want to hear this! My computer barely works, and I didn’t have the funds to get me a new one.

Than it happened……the greatest news of my life. You can make purchases at the IT store, and they’ll charge it to your bursar! (O and I forgot to mention I had strep, but a few minutes of contact wouldn’t hurt anyone right?)

So I hopped out of bed, bundled up, and went on the best journey of my life! I walked into the store and bought my brand new MacBook Pro! She is beautiful!

Now when my refund check comes in January, they’ll automatically take the cost of my new computer out, and I’ll receive whatever is left. Which is perfect, because I needed a computer anyway. This is why OU is the perfect place, they make sure you are never without essentials!

Let’s go SERVICE!!!! If you can’t already tell, OU is all about two things.. Academics and SERVICE!! Every organization has a service project or something that gives back and this day is no different! I had the pleasure of getting out to the South oval for an ACTION-PACKED service event equipped with Shacks, change buckets, and HOMELESS GREEKS?!?!?!!!

That’s right! I said it! The OU Greek system got back to the basics in an effort to show the community how life can really be. Check out a few exclusive shots for your eyes only.
