What is Visual Communications, you say? Well, it’s basically graphic design with a fancy name. What’s so special about it? Well – I’m here to tell you that it is the BEST & the WORST major at OU. “Impossible!” you cry. Believe me, it’s true, and I’ll explain why.
*Not enough time to read a whole entry? Scroll down for a video I spent 60 hours designing. Trust me, it’s the best homework assignment I’ve ever had.

School is back and I am ready to attack! I love the first week of classes because I can carry over my laziness for a couple more days, and my birthday always falls on that weekend! This semester is different for me because my internship with OU Alumni is not only my part-time job but a class I get credit for. Which means more time to learn about graphic design for a large university and more time to spend with the great staff. (They gave me a birthday card with a girl in pig-tails – I may or may not sport them often) I also am taking lots of photographs for the events they host. OU Alumni recently held a free event at Sam Noble Museum of Natural History called “Night at the Museum.” Not only did kids and parents get to tour all the fun exhibits, there was free food, crafts, face-painting and a showing of the movie, “Night at the Museum.” Here are few pics from the night!
Jocelyn and her sister Adelynn loved their butterfly tattoos.
Kids loved the interactive displays maybe as much as seeing dinosaur fossils.
Christian Wetmore toured the exhibits with his family.
I would encourage those who are job hunting to look no further than the University for employment. Jobs at OU are available to every student and are easily searchable at jobs.ou.edu.

Lately, I’ve been feeling very inspired by my classmates, whether it be through their creative ideas or detailed illustrations, I could look at my friend’s artwork for days. Recently, my friend Thomas Shahan went on The Today Show (Yeah, like the three hour show in New York City with Al Roker and Matt Lauer, THAT Today Show) to talk about his awesome insect photos he has taken. I did not go to OU/Texas.
In fact, I did not watch a single minute of the game. Why? I was a bridesmaid for my friend’s wedding.. thus, I was busy, busy, busy from 9 – 5. My sadness of missing the game was trumped by the amazingness that is Bono and Fergie Ferg the following Sunday. Here are some shots I got with my 6 pixel camera.

I heard rumors that it took 150 semi-trucks to bring in all the pieces to put this “spaceship” set together. Some say 250 though….

U2 dedicated their song “Walk On” to Aung San Suu Ky, who is under house arrest in Myanmar – this is a mask of her face for everyone to wear during that song.

When the Black Eyed Peas stepped out for the first time, I kind of lost my breath. Sounds kind of lame, but I had never been so close to such celebrities without them looking like ants. They were so close!

Fergie’s voice was incredible! She sounds even better, live.

What makes a 360 concert the best concert you’ll ever experience? The fact that the Edge walks across a bridge and plays the guitar right in front of you!
-
-
…And Bono of course! (I still can’t believe I was this close to him)

The bridges they walked on moved around. The Edge was on bridge, and Bono on the other… They were on opposites sides of the stage and then the bridges came together so they could give each other high fives. SO COOL.
I have about 100 more photos, but I will spare you.
I feel very lucky, and I’m sure everyone else that was able to go felt the same way.

In lieu of the Miami game this weekend, I shall give you a photo journey of my football experience thus far!

Millions and Billions of dollars spent so I can watch OU lose to BYU. I am not bitter….

I actually love nose bleed section at times. I get to see the entire scope of fans and seats! Here, the team is warmin up to some jammin tunes.

Here are my friends and I during halftime. You can’t tell by our smiling faces, but we were sad Sam Bradford was injured.

Monsoon? Hurricane? No, just torrential rain.. and the first game of the season wasn’t going to keep my friends Sarah, Elizabeth C., Elizabeth O. and I from not attending. The back-up quarterback Landry Jones totally won us over.. I thought about wearing a fake mustache for the next game.

A great thing about OU, is that they offer all types of internships. This summer I interned for Alumni as a graphic designer, and decided to keep the job for the rest of the year. For the Tulsa/OU game, I got to take photos of their pre-game festivities. Here is the crowd cheering on the OU Pride as they marched in.

I mostly walked around and took photos of groups of people, sadly, I was mistaken for Party Pics quite a bit. It was really fun getting to talk to people who had flown from Pennsylvania or Maryland just to attend a game. This is Jill and her son William. Cute, right?
More games to come… BOOMER SOONER!

Jay Shuster, Art Director at Pixar, spoke at OU about his experiences working on Star Wars Episode I, Cars and Wall-E. We were not allowed to take photos during the lecture itself, so many photographers and students tried to get as many shots in at the beginning as possible.
Last October, a few of us Visual Communications students got to miss class for a day and venture to Tulsa, OK to see Jay Shuster's lecture at the Philbrook Museum. Sure, it was the exact same lecture as the one last week, but it still kept me laughing. At the lecture in Tulsa, we were all given posters with a car Jay had designed. Here, my friend Lisa Phan is getting that same poster signed... a whole year later.
