What is Visual Communications, you say? Well, it’s basically graphic design with a fancy name. What’s so special about it? Well – I’m here to tell you that it is the BEST & the WORST major at OU. “Impossible!” you cry. Believe me, it’s true, and I’ll explain why.

*Not enough time to read a whole entry? Scroll down for a video I spent 60 hours designing. Trust me, it’s the best homework assignment I’ve ever had.

School is back and I am ready to attack! I love the first week of classes because I can carry over my laziness for a couple more days, and my birthday always falls on that weekend! This semester is different for me because my internship with OU Alumni is not only my part-time job but a class I get credit for. Which means more time to learn about graphic design for a large university and more time to spend with the great staff. (They gave me a birthday card with a girl in pig-tails – I may or may not sport them often) I also am taking lots of photographs for the events they host. OU Alumni recently held a free event at Sam Noble Museum of Natural History called “Night at the Museum.” Not only did kids and parents get to tour all the fun exhibits, there was free food, crafts, face-painting and a showing of the movie, “Night at the Museum.” Here are few pics from the night!

Jocelyn and her sister Adelynn loved their butterfly tattoos.

Kids loved the interactive displays maybe as much as seeing dinosaur fossils.

Christian Wetmore toured the exhibits with his family.

I would encourage those who are job hunting to look no further than the University for employment. Jobs at OU are available to every student and are easily searchable at jobs.ou.edu.

Lately, I’ve been feeling very inspired by my classmates, whether it be through their creative ideas or detailed illustrations, I could look at my friend’s artwork for days. Recently, my friend Thomas Shahan went on The Today Show (Yeah, like  the three hour show in New York City with Al Roker and Matt Lauer, THAT Today Show) to talk about his awesome insect photos he has taken. I did not go to OU/Texas.
In fact, I did not watch a single minute of the game. Why? I was a bridesmaid for my friend’s wedding.. thus, I was busy, busy, busy from 9 – 5. My sadness of missing the game was trumped by the amazingness that is Bono and Fergie Ferg the following Sunday. Here are some shots I got with my 6 pixel camera.

I have about 100 more photos, but I will spare you.

I feel very lucky, and I’m sure everyone else that was able to go felt the same way.

In lieu of the Miami game this weekend, I shall give you a photo journey of my football experience thus far!

More games to come… BOOMER SOONER!

Jay Shuster, Art Director at Pixar, spoke at OU about his experiences working on Star Wars Episode I, Cars and Wall-E. We were not allowed to take photos during the lecture itself, so many photographers and students tried to get as many shots in at the beginning as possible.

Last October, a few of us Visual Communications students got to miss class for a day and venture to Tulsa, OK to see Jay Shuster's lecture at the Philbrook Museum. Sure, it was the exact same lecture as the one last week, but it still kept me laughing. At the lecture in Tulsa, we were all given posters with a car Jay had designed. Here, my friend Lisa Phan is getting that same poster signed... a whole year later.
