I am keeping busy here, planning lots of events for the Student Film Production Club (SFPC) and trying to figure out how to maintain good grades this semester. I am also starting to plan ahead for the spring… I wish there were two or three of me. Then I could even attempt to do all the fun/interesting/resumé-building things I want to do next semester.

But back to the Student Film Production Club events…

SFPC hosted a Screenwriting Workshop with Joel Hulett and Sheryl Fletcher. Joel Hulett has been an entertainment lawyer for twenty years, and now is a producer and president of Dolphin Bay Films in Tulsa. I interned with him this summer, and learned so much about what it takes to be an independent film producer (something I think I would very much like to do). Sheryl Fletcher is a Canadian screenwriter who is working with Joel on a couple of screenplays and is also working on developing a tweener TV series, which she isn’t allowed to talk about– top secret. I worked on one of her screenplays while I was interning at Dolphin Bay this summer. I wrote in a couple scenes to help spice up a certain character, and they kept my additions!

The Screenwriting Workshop covered both the creative and business side of screenwriting– how to write screenplays well and then the logistics of how to sell the screenplay to a producer. Except for the fact that the two only did Q&A and didn’t lecture at all (which was not what I had in mind), I think the event was a success. Students had a lot of questions, and their questions filled up two hours worth of Q&A, which means there was a lot of interest in what was being discussed.

Also, I was really happy that over FORTY people came! The room was packed, and for students on a Friday afternoon, that was a very impressive turnout. As an event organizer, you never really know how many people will show and how things will turn out until the event itself (since getting students to RSVP is a waste of time).

So overall, I am really happy with how well the workshop went. Hopefully we will be able to host lots more of them in the spring!

This weekend was Family Weekend at the University of Oklahoma. (Parents’ Weekend is in the spring.)  My parents drove to Norman on Saturday, and we partook in some of the Family Weekend festivities all over campus.   Read more

By this point, you have sent in your applications, you are getting ready for the holidays, and planning for the final semester of your high school career. You’ve probably also visited at least one or two campuses. Have you visited OU? What was your perception of our University?

Ah, November…

The leaves are changing colors and the air is crisp. The weather has been pleasantly warm and surprisingly nice here in Norman. I hope all of you are enjoying this awesome fall  weather! And I cannot believe that there are only about 5 more weeks of school left! Unbelievable! I can’t believe time has passed by so quick. Also, the holiday season is upon us! My favorite time of year and I have already planned what to cook for Thanksgiving dinner (I use the word “cook”, but trust me, it’s not really considered cooking if you just heat something up. I only use that word to make myself feel significantly better at my lack of any culinary skills).

This past month I had the opportunity to capture another awesome event. The President’s Community Scholars’ (PCS) Halloween Party! This event was all about the kids as PCS takes yet another step to give back. I’m so proud to call myself a PCS mentor!

This blog is dedicated to all my vegan, vegetarian, and ethics-conscious brethren out there. As you start planning your trip to OU or anticipate Sooner Saturday, keep this guide handy so you can stay well-fuelled for all the fun!

This is an uncensored, unapproved look at vegan options at OU – let’s begin.

Oklahoma Ruf/NEKS after a game

Sunday, the first of November, Owl City performed in front of a capacity crowd at the McCasland Field House on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.  As a member of CAC Concert Series, I was responsible for promotion during the weeks leading up to the show, and the night of the show I worked to ensure things ran smoothly.  Overall it was a fantastic evening, but the highlight of the show was not what you would expect. This is the reason I haven’t blogged in awhile. Sorry! But, I’m back in full force!!! Midterms are tests that you have in the middle of your semester. This shows your professor how much you’ve actually been paying attention to his lectures! A word of advice…..GO TO CLASS!!! College is not like high school, where they call roll and call your mom if you’ve missed. There is so much freedom here, but this can be a bad thing! You have to stay accountable for every decision you make. If you choose not to go to class there will be consequences. The good thing about OU is that the professors are understanding! If you’re sick, they’ll let you make up what you missed. You also become a family with the people in your major, all of you want to see each other succeed! Make those study groups. Keep each other accountable with your attendance. If you follow this advice, I promise mid-terms will be a piece of cake….the chocolate kind with A LOT of frosting! Take care!
