Buy/Die New Releases: September 29

Sometimes the releases of the week just suck. There’s always at least one good CD coming out, but this week’s crop is weak other than the single gem. But, onward.

Buy Buy Buy:

Strict Joy – Swell Season. Best known as “that guy and girl from that Once movie,” Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova put out another album anyway. It’ll be heartbreakingly gorgeous, even if it was a techno album. But it’s not. So, if you like beautiful, lush indie-pop, chances are this will make your day.

Buy:

Yeah Ghost – Zero 7. Mostly known for putting a track on the absolutely stacked Garden State soundtrack, Zero 7 puts out another album anyway. Their Myspace features some surprisingly soulful sounds for the downtempo pop group, but Zero 7 always produces good stuff. Worth your time, for sure.

/:

Brand New Eyes – Paramore. Twilight-powered as of late, Paramore drops some more hard rock with female vocals. Doubt it will be earthshattering, but it won’t be the worst thing that happens this week.

Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel – Mariah Carey. People who are going to buy this are already stoked. People who aren’t going to buy this already have moved on. If you haven’t heard it’s coming out, here’s your update. Choose sides accordingly.

Crash Love – AFI. I feel like I could write the same exact thing that I wrote about Mariah Carey for AFI. There’s just hardly anybody who’s not already a fan of AFI that will be converted by this release. For the record, I like the sound of it better than decemberunderground; the new one has more overtones of Sing the Sorrow, which is good.

Die:

Dear Agony – Breaking Benjamin. The title mocks itself.

Black Gives Way to Blue – Alice in Chains. Layne Staley is dead, and this is subsequently not really Alice in Chains.

God & Guns – Lynyrd Skynyrd. Similarly to above, be not fooled. This isn’t the same Lynyrd Skynyrd that wrote “Free Bird.”
