This Weekend Rocks: October 22-24

Ever since I started blogging weekly about the immense amount of things to do musically in the area, I’ve been amazed that nary a week has gone by without something cool going on. I knew that this area wasn’t the worst place in the world for music, but it certainly didn’t strike me as a hot spot until I started checking every week. Love your scene, people. This is a great place for music.

Should Do: There is absolutely no reason in the world that you should miss the Ghouls Gone Wild parade in Oklahoma City on Saturday. The mile-long Halloween-themed parade boasts Stardeath and the White Dwarfs as Grand Marshal, The Flaming Lips leading an army of 1000 skeletons, and (according to the Ghouls website) 50,000 attendees. It starts at 7:00 p.m. at 11th and Walker and goes south to 10th and Walker. Jump on the route somewhere and check the madness, plus aftershows by Stardeath, the Collins Kids and a DJ (Dead Beats). Goofy, wild fun for hipsters and non-hipsters alike. Truly an Oklahoma phenomenon.

Could Do: Kate Voegele has a voice that could turn gravel to diamonds if the gravel listened long enough. Her unadorned, pure voice and singer/songwriter style will be on full display tonight at Diamond Ballroom. Green River Ordinance opens the show at 7 p.m.

…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead will be at the Conservatory on Friday. Their clanging, dissonant indie-rock tunes should appeal to those who like At The Drive-in, AFI, Dredg, maybe even Muse. Dark, heavy, pounding, but with melodic intent as well. Future of the Left and Callupsie will be playing as well.

Should Not Do: Surprisingly, there’s not really anything to make fun of this week. All the shows have at least a modicum of legitimacy. Wowsers.
