Hey everyone! So first exams are coming up and I’m busy studying for them right now. I have a Microbiology exam tomorrow morning at 8 am and I have an exam for my “Death, Grief, and Growth” class Thursday afternoon. After taking all of these exams, I plan on starting some research for my “Love/Sex/Race” paper and studying for Physics. Looks like there won’t be too much of a break for me!

It’s time for another blog.  As I have related previously, this is my final semester as an undergraduate student at the University of Oklahoma.  I have also stated that my next step is law school.  All of my friends who are now in law school have approached studying for the LSAT and getting into law schools in different ways.  I’m going to relate to you my method.

I love Norman. There are so many unique shops downtown that give it heart. My favorites are Pink Elephant Café, Guestroom Records and the Opolis.

Today, I was exploring a little jewelry shop on Main and found a bracelet featuring La Virgen de Guadalupe, which I’m studying in my Chicano Literature class. Seriously. I love Norman.

I am ready for apple cider, cold football games, long sleeve t-shirt, holidays, and most importantly scarves!  I seriously cannot believe that it is almost October of my Junior year, in COLLEGE.  I never would have imagined that the time would fly by so fast, but it has.

Cakes at the Caf

OU’s Couch Restaurants, a.k.a the Caf,  might be my favorite place on campus. I spend at least an hour and a half there every weekday eating with friends.  There are so many options you can choose from to eat and you can have as much as you want! From all you can eat Chick-Fil-A to Greek food to Chinese food to Mexican food to burgers and steaks and buffet style entrees and sides, there is no way a person could enter inside of this building and not find something they would enjoy to eat, especially due to the unbelievable selection of desserts available to us! I’ve never been a huge fan of coffee, but a mocha with a double shot of expresso or any other mug of Starbucks coffee prepared at the Caf are just the things to keep a student (like me) awake after a really late night of studying and a 9:30 a.m. class. Teachers and textbooks advise against last minute cramming for a test, and while I don’t plan on making this a habit because I would so much rather sleep, I’d like to thank the Caf for keeping me awake throughout my test last Wednesday morning.  If you ever visit campus be sure to stop by for a meal! You won’t be disappointed! Eating hasn’t been the only thing I’ve continued to like about my first year at OU! The OU Cousins program began last week and attending OU football games has been a staples of every weekend on campus so far, but I’ll talk more about all of that in posts to come!

The University of Oklahoma: We have it all. I’m sure you have heard this tagline on many OU Recruitment items but I assure you, it’s more than just a saying — it really is true. During my senior year, while I was looking at OU as a potential college, I was definitely swayed by the diversity and opportunities available at OU. I feel that my college experience has included a variety of adventures, opportunities, people, and experiences that I would not have ever encountered elsewhere.

Before I get into too many details, let me tell you a little about myself. The typical details first: I am a  junior majoring in Microbiology with minors in Chemistry and Medical Humanities. I have big dreams of attending medical school and pursuing a dream career involving patient care, health policy, medical research, and dealing with public health abroad. I arrived at OU from Alva, Oklahoma — a small town in northwest Oklahoma (it’s about 3 hours away from Norman). On campus, I am involved in a cornucopia of  activities. Some of my favorites are CAC High School Leadership Conference, Global Medical Brigades, the President’s Leadership Class/Crimson Club, and my sorority. I also love attending lectures on campus and spending a large majority of my time on the fourth floor of the Bizzell Memorial Library (although I am actively searching for new study spots).

Hey future Sooners! My name is Ben Becker and I am a Petroleum Engineering Sophomore here at THE University of Oklahoma. This is my first blog (and I’m sure you’ll see this is the case with most Boomer Bloggers) so I’m going to take a little time to tell you about myself.

I was born in Austin, TX (moved when I was six weeks old) and spent around five and half years in six different houses all over Nebraska, from Lincoln to Omaha to York. I moved to Tulsa when I was about six and I’ve lived there ever since. Being born in Austin and growing up a HUGE Nebraska Cornhusker fan, OU is the last place I saw myself attending college. Three things happened to change that: I decided that despite opportunities out of state to go to school, financially the best decision was to stay here; OSU didn’t have my major; and I visited my brother (now a Political Science/Economics Senior) for a weekend and fell in love with the campus and people.

As a Camp Crimson small group leader this summer, I learned of an OU chant that was lost over the years. I was also charged with helping to revive it. Here goes…

Hey All! I guess I should introduce myself, since that seems to be the common theme right now.

I’m Virginia Duke (majoring in Film and Video Studies– from Billings, Montana) and I am going into my senior year of college. Gah! Every time I write that or say that, I freak out just a little. I don’t think I’m ready to graduate. I mean, I’m excited about the big wide world and all, but I’m also quite comfortable and happy with the life I have here.

Anyway… One of the best things about my senior year is that I am President of the Student Film Production Club, an organization that I’ve been a part of since freshman year (when the club was just getting started). I’ve had the privilege to be a leader in the club since the beginning, working my way up to being President this year, and it has been so much fun to see the club grow.

Last Thursday, Sept 2nd:

After my Vis Comm design studio class, I took off to visit OKC and the beautiful Health Sciences Center for the University of Oklahoma. We were on a day-long Recruitment Services retreat to plan our campaign for the year so we didn’t get to spend too much time wandering across the HSC campus, but what little I saw of it I LOVED. It was just as gorgeous as our Norman campus is. Now, I’ve never even considered going into any medical profession, but if you’re considering Nursing, Dentistry, Physical Therapy and all the other health-oriented careers, OU HSC is something you need to look into. As for me, I’m perfectly content with my art degree. 🙂
